A Waste Management Company

Directive

Design a relational database system to automate business processes including:

  1. Scheduling when to receive the waste

  2. Tracking and monitoring of the trucks

  3. Identifying the type of waste

  4. Tracking the status of the shipment

  5. Recording analysis and treatment of the waste

  6. Tracking where the waste was deposited within the waste field

Remarks

Started out designing the relational database and performing DataBase Administrator (DBA) functions.

Quickly evolved into a full system design role and took on the technical lead position for the whole development team, working closely with both the lead business analysts from the Waste Management company as well as the development team which consisted of seven contract developers from two different contracting firms.

The system was developed with PowerBuilder accessing a SQLServer database.

Results

Successfully designed and implemented an extensive computer system that encompassed the breadth of the business.

The system prevented hazardous waste from being deposited into non-hazardous cells and recovered costs for waste deposit where the previous manual systems would have lost the invoice tracking.
